Good Morning all… woo weee Spring is totally in the air today. I’m inside mixing beats and later heading out to ProffittProductions new studio with HBO’s“Spider” aka Ammo from The Wire. Busy day which is great …
Good morning all..Hope your week is off to a great start…
MPC2000xl – Nasir – Making A Beat
I’m about to get it going with some sample beats. Nothing like a good video to get in the mood for chopping. Sample heads will appreciate this. The sample playing at the beginning is so soulful..I’m really feeling the chops and the beat. They kept the video nice and raw as well. No mixing just a straight beat here…
Mpc 1000 – Greem (Producer Exclusive) – Making The Beat 4
The next one is cool. He’s using a very popular sample from The Dells “The Love We Had”
He also uses a midi controller to play samples during the beat making process ..
Hey all, how are you? I have the Mpc fired up, about to make a beat for a new artist that I will feature here very soon. Hopefully he’ll record at my studio so I can capture the footage.
I’ve had my Mpc for about 2 yrs now. I must confess I don’t use it often enough. First it was the learning curve. Once I learned how to use it, I still thought I could use software more efficiently.
I sat down last week and made a beat on the Mpc2500 really quick. So I guess the final ice has been broken.
It is time for me to learn this piece of equipment like I know software. I am starting by changing the time signatures. I imagine this will help me get precise chops when recording in real time. Today I am fiddling around with an 8/4 time signature building the beat in 4 bar measures.
Q.First of all, what are time signatures? A.Time signatures are the amount of beats in a measure. Quite simple right? I know not so easy at first for me either lol…Well here is a video that explains time signatures clearly…
Before I begin my beat making, I need to know how to change the time signature. I couldn’t find many videos on this for the Mpc2500. I did find one for the 4000. Expert Village:How to Use the Akai MPC 4000 : Time Signature on the Akai MPC 4000
This is explained on the 4000, but I am pretty sure all mpcs have the same function.
“On the Mpc2500 scroll to the “Tsig 4/4″ , highlight the “4/4″ part and select Window to open the editing screen…”
I’ll let you know the how the 8/4 turns out. Mpc users what time signatures do you use? and what time signature settings do you think work best for hiphop? Hit me up with some comments below, I’d really like to get some feedback..
Happy Friday All Woohoo… Today is gonna be warmer than usual as we enter into Spring. It’s days like this that I have to close the blinds so I won’t be tempted to go outside and stay outside..lol
It’s also days like this where a little youtube motivation helps me get into work mode. While I was at the No Guts No Glory Battle, I was discussing how I’m slowly getting into using the Mpc efficiently. My thing with production that I work on constantly other than mixing, is: it takes me forever to make the HITS… don’t get me wrong, I can make a beat within an hour. It’s the sure fire bangers that take me a lonnnggg time. I use a lot of percussion tracks which gets so time consuming on the Mpc. I also like to turn knobs on vsts and when I use Reasons Malstrom or Subtractor.
My fam and great producer “Phathead” mentioned that I could use my software as a sound module. I told him ” well I’ve got the motif connected…don’t really need to use them”… WRONG!
I logged onto Youtube this morning, not even thinking about the conversation nor possibilities of using my software as a module..and BOOM ..clicking around on my subscribed channels I found a few videos about it. I may have mentioned this before, but I haven’t seen the videos I’ll be posting today.
After trying it out, my mind just opened up to an exciting new way of using the mpc. Well it’s not new, but new to me using it. Now if I can figure out how to have multiple instruments from Reason on different tracks in the Mpc; I can see how this will help.
I know Reason and Fl Studio very well. I love the ability to use Vsts in Fl Studio, as well as Reasons samplers and modules. On the other hand the Mpc kicks are my absolute best! The thing is I am super slow using the Mpc for anything. lol…I think it’s the knob turning, the pc just seems so much faster when tweaking synth sounds and doing major percussion work. Also, adjusting the actual sounds from the motif rack takes a good little while itself.
Whala! Best of both worlds.. I can play the mpc drums, then get all my synths and percs from Reason or Fl Studio..yay. I can also use my hardware synths, all sequenced in one place on the Mpc.
Some of you may think ” Why don’t you just sequence in Protools or Reaper?”. Well then I’d have to use Rewire, and midi tracks. Both require bouncing the midi to audio files. Using software as modules I can record all on the mpc, record into the multitrack and work strictly with audio files. This makes it much easier as a beginner to mixing.
I’m still thinking all this through.. so please enjoy the videos and let me know if you have any suggestions.
