The Definitive Guitar Handbook

The Definitive Guitar Handbook

Hey Hey! I recently went to Borders for the closeout sale. I purchased a few books, and you know I went on the hunt for music theory stuff. I found an excellent guitar book! This has to be one of the most informative music books I have ever opened on the subject. There are tons of pictures. Plenty progressions, and scales explained. Loads of information about different genres of guitar like jazz, rock, and blues. It even covers changing strings, practice, and recording guitar. Brilliant read honestly…I really could go on for a long time and I’ve only had it two weeks.

Here are few pictures I took..and check out how thick it is :) :

Guitar Dexterity Exercises

Posted by Ms.Tris On February - 3 - 2011

Afternoon to ya! I’m excited to say I know about three chords thoroughly on my guitar now..yay and double yay :) . I stuck to my at least 2 hour practice / study. I did have to break it up between two weeks though lol… Well I am still on the quest.

My main problem is stretching my fingers to reach some notes. I am also finding my left pinky is just too stiff period! Woo Hoo for youtube. I found this video a few minutes ago. It’s all about dexterity which is needed for playing guitar and many string instruments. It will also help piano players.

Beginner Guitar Lessons – Finger Dexterity Exercise

There is a second part which can be found at :Gutar101Ramstein on Youtube. I have subscribed and will continue through his series.

I am also using this chord book. It has thousands of chords and chord progressions including pictures of the fingering:

Putting all my resources to work now. So far so good and my guitar is no longer dusty :)

Free Online Guitar Lessons:Cyberfret.Com

Posted by Ms.Tris On January - 20 - 2011

The year is poppin’ already! I have started a few huge projects and the beats are being written to now. I even have a couple tracks with me on the hook and doing some verses :) . Yes back on my artistic grind again. I am finally in a place where I actually feel like writing (lyrics that is ..here on the blog we are cool :) ). I’ll be promoting a book that many of you will relate to..Noisy Neighbors ..lol. The book is called “Dear Neighbor”, written by Keybe Writes who will also release her poetry cd produced by me. I’ll be posting about both early February.

All the projects above kept me busy for months. I was looking at a few of my post from this time last year. I realized there are a lot of post I wanted to do and just could not squeeze in. I plan to do a little catching up starting now.

One of my main goals last year was to learn more guitar. I did well for about two months. When my music projects kicked in, I put my guitar on the stand, and there it stayed until this morning.

I am seriously back at it. I made myself a little weekly schedule which will include at least 2 hours of guitar practice. I am hoping to learn and play a few tunes in a few months. I’m checking out all the links I saved last year. I think I found the site that I will stick with through April:

www.cyberfret.com

This site is so complete for me. Some of the main features of the site includes:
Learn Guitar
Beginner Guitar Lessons
Guitar Chords
Guitar Scales
Guitar Arpeggios
Guitar Techniques
Guitar Styles

Theory & Composition
Music Theory
Ear Training
Songwriting for Guitar

Lead Guitar & Technique
Lead Guitar Solos
Guitar Chops

Guitar Music
Guitar Tablature
Reading Guitar Music
There is much more, but that’s enough for any beginner to use for starters. Of course I’ll continue to read my books and check in on youtube. Do any of you play guitar? Feel free to share your tips and advice for beginners in the comments…

Life 2:How My Hiatus Opened Bigger Doors

Posted by Ms.Tris On July - 15 - 2008

At the end of working on the set of Season 5 of Hbo’s “The Wire”, I invested in this ^ beginners guitar. It will be a year in October, but I only know a few notes. I had to make the transition back to music from 2 straight years of film work. After a few months reorganizing my lab, connecting all the modules, and hardware to my DAW, I began to study music theory. In April I got the site up and running, and now blogging is a part of my career.

I used to be on my local scene heavy. You could find me at almost every event, battle, and hip hop function weekly. Between 2004 and 2006 I have worked with over 60 artist and my beat game was booming. I was making about 4 or 5 beats daily, and on just about every mixtape or major local cd that came out. Folks locally have been wondering where I’ve been lately..is she still doing beats?….Is she still doing film work?… The answer is yes to beats, and no to film work (at least for a while).

I was explaining to Sol Eternity, a long time mentor of mine, that my focus is different than before. I think he was assuming I was giving up from his response. What he didn’t hear is what my site reveals. The Music Industry relies heavily on the internet for survival. Here I am making my mark, I am no longer frantically chasing a place called “The Industry”, I realize that I am in “The Industry”. I am making a decent living doing what I love, right here with people just like me.

What this realization has done, is open doors for more musical freedom. When I was ” a hungry, greedy, starving” producer..lol… my feet weren’t quite planted on solid ground. Today I feel I am able to create freely, and I have more time with the artist I produce for. I have more time to learn new things about music, and I have more time to teach what I am learning. If I had not done the music hiatus while on film sets, this site would still be under construction, and I would still be on the merry go round of::: beats, studio, shows, sell beats, spend the money at shows, beats, shows, studio, spend money on an outfit for the shows..etc etc… I guess life said “STOP”….and now I am on a much better and more smooth path.
