Jim Bond Explains How To “Be A Better Producer”

Posted by Ms.Tris Beats On October - 7 - 2009

A hearty hello to all! ….Soooo glad to return to posting. I think that was the longest break we’ve had here at MsTrisMusic.Com.
Quick Update:
You know when I say break I mean plenty beats made, plenty sessions recorded, and much life stuff handled.
I wasn’t able to answer all the comments, I am going through them after this post.

I have been having a great time with music projects lately. I have learned even more which I’ll be sharing of course. I notice many of you were visiting and going through tutorials even while I was away. I appreciate that much. It makes it all worth writing!

I have mentioned www.dynamicproducer.com many times. Its a site for producers where you can learn new things about production and music business. They hold annual seminars, all for producers and songwriters. It really gets you motivated, and even offers industry submission opts.

One of the sites partners is producer/writer/scout Jim Bond. I noticed as soon as he came aboard his dedication to the Dynamic Producer Movement.

After seeing how he worked with producers providing information and tips, I subscribed to his awesome new site:www.beabetterproducer.com.

I must say I was very impressed! What I didn’t know is, Jim Bond has had major placements left and right! He takes so much time to help and is still on his grind.

Jim does a wonderful job at sharing the culture behind hiphop music production. He goes into great detail about the samples used, along with techniques and tutorials.

Here is his first tutorial installment: The Making Of (The Beat): Jim Jones “Bright Lights Big City” produced by Jim Bond PART I (Ha ha ..yes! you read correctly ^^^^^^^^^^^ …)

You can view the full tutorial series on Jims’ Youtube Channel. This is a blog that I have bookmarked, check him out and let him know MsTrisMusic sent you.

Slicex Tips and Help Files

Posted by Ms.Tris On April - 1 - 2009

What are you up to today? I’m about to get rolling with my 1st beat of the morning. I did fiddle around with the slicex yesterday, after watching the videos. Now I see the huge difference between the slicer and slicex.

There are many additions in slicex like the ability to add fx to each slice. This is is just one out of about 50 things I noticed right away. Another great option is being able to load two samples at once. My mind got to churning on this one.

Let’s say you have filtered a bassline from some funky soul sample but it’s all muffled. You load that in deck A. You could add a good clean bass sample over top using deck B. Then replay your bassline using your midi keyboard or draw it in on the piano roll.

I am actually super excited about this plugin now. I also remember the key reason I closed the slicex before, about 3 months ago. I couldn’t figure out how to make the samples “play til end” like the Fl Slicer does. This is a technique that I love.

What it does is allow you to trigger a sample start from your slice marker, and play the sample all the way through until the end. This way you can “play” your slices like an instrument without sudden stops, as well as select the sample end point in real time.

I had to google this, because I have the slicex open and ready to roll!~ Guess what?… the answer was in the HELP file…lol Image line didn’t make this as easy as it is on the old slicer. You have to run a script. The directions are listed under ” Quick Start” here:http://flstudio.image-line.com/help/html/plugins/Slicex.htm. Click through for more help on Slicex. I’ll be posting some tutorials on it soon. Always remember, ” The Help File is your friend”….

Wish me luck, I am off to see if I can get this to work….

Clip / Sampler Channel can now load a sample of at least 2 Gb for 32 Bit & 64 Bit Windows versions.
* Improved audio options – ASIO: ‘Mix in bufferswitch’ and ‘Triple buffer’ may improve performance with some ASIO drivers. ASIO/Primary Sound: Revised
‘Playback tracking’ options to help with alignment of visual & recorded events where soundcard problems exist.
* Autosave / Autobackup – FL Studio can now be set to back up the current project at 5 to 15 minute intervals. Never lose project data again!
* FL Studio Fruity Edition – Now gains access to Playlist Pattern Clips for unlimited scoring and automation flexibility.

9th Wonder Interviews:A Fl Studio Power User

Posted by Ms.Tris On August - 2 - 2008

Happy Saturday to all. Had a super busy week, I don’t usually post on weekends though I’d like to more often. Theres an on going battle about Fl Studio users versus Reason or Hardware. It’s funny to me because if the beat is hot, who cares what you use. In interviews I say ‘ I’ll use pots and pans if I had to..” :-) ..
9th Wonder has used Fl Studio for all of his beats, and he’s worked with Jay Z, Beyonce, Bootcamp and many more. If you know your equipment well, there’s no limit to what you can acheive….

Reason 3.0 Knockin Kicks?

Reason 3.0 Knockin Kick?

The Redrum Connection

Fruityloops Studio Producers Edition has been my weapon of choice for about 4 or 5 yrs. I recently upgraded equipment. I’m not quite into the hardware yet. So far the quality is there, but I am not as quick on hardware as I am software. Today’s tutorial is inspired by

Warbeats.com How To Beef Up Your Kicks In Fl Studio

You’ll have to sign up to NFX’s site to view this great video.

Always striving for a better mix during the actual production process, this tutorial has me tweaking in all my production software. The technique he gives works great all the way around. I found a way to achieve this in Reason 3.0 while at a friends studio. If you need beginners help starting and creating projects in Reason. Please refer to the Help file located in the top right portion of your Reason software menu.
