Free Chord Progression Chart, and How I Use It

Posted by Ms.Tris On July - 24 - 20085 COMMENTS

Good morning all..hope everything is going well for you. This Tutorial will be a 2 part series for beginners in music theory
For those of you finding my site for the first time, I do hope you return often, and subscribe by email or rss feed to stay updated. :-). My site is not only a tutorial site, but it’s my personal blog also. I share things that I have learned in the past, as well as what I am learning and beats I’m working on daily.
I am fairly new to proper composition using chord progressions. This is one of the most requested emails I get. I first started learning theory around this time last year. I thought “Okaaay.. I have some chord progressions now what”?…
It takes years to learn composition. Many producers go to college to understand theory. I work with several artist who request “Dirty South” beats. This style of production relies heavily on chords, and drums. So I had to pump up the volume;I had to come up with a system that works for me now.

Free Soundfonts and Sf Player

Posted by Ms.Tris On July - 23 - 20088 COMMENTS

Got an email requesting all the good stuff for crunk beats. Pianos, strings, horns, and effects. Juv(hope you don’t mind the nickname 🙂 ).. wanted to know some good sound modules and vst instruments…

The most popular sound modules are the Yamaha, Roland, and Korg for Hip Hop. You can find them at your local Guitar Center and several online music stores like ZZounds.

I am really looking into the Roland Fantom for my main workstation, but I bought the Yamaha Motif es rack about a year ago. The Motif is a wonderful choice, and I know all of the above are great.

Before I ever thought I could afford the Motif, lol , I relied on soundfonts. They are basically a collection of sounds that you use in a soundfont player. You can read the full history on Wiki,Wikipedia Soundfont Info. As with most sound kits or wavs, you’ll have to spend a few bucks for the high quality banks. There are also several free soundfont banks online. I’ve posted some of my favorites in the
Links To Free Stuff Post.
Sf2midi has soooo many to choose from… The free soundfonts usually need some tweaking as far as eq, but they will surely get you started.

Mixing In Reason 4.0

Posted by Ms.Tris On July - 22 - 2008ADD COMMENTS

In this lovely world of producing hip hop, I am on a road of never ending discovery. What I share here will reflect on all of the treasures :-)… As I find I will share.. some of the techniques are far from new, but new in a sense that I never tried it. Here is one from Caleb Jerome a producer from Kansas City. I have some business to handle today… I haven’t picked up Reason 4.0 yet, but as soon as I’m done, I’m going to my friends lab and try this one …

R.I.P K Swift-Club Queen of Baltimore

Posted by Ms.Tris On July - 21 - 2008ADD COMMENTS

This is such sad news..she was definitely one of our citys greatest Djs ever…..
and was making history for our city, and females across the nation….I guess I’m just shocked to find this news out…

She broke ground as a female DJ on 92 Q Jams and rose to female mix show coordinator.

She was one of the only women in the country to hold the title (WJZ)…..

UPDATE:7/22/08 1:21 pm Est..
I have tried to write something to my readers about K Swift several times since hearing this news. Baltimore City has tons of artist in Hip Hop, and there are several in Club music. Out of those artist, there are very few females on the local scene. It’s as though we have lost a family member. My words still will not flow to express what I feel today. My deepest condolences go out to all family , friends, and fans of Ms. Khia “K Swift” Edgerton. She was an inspiration to me musically, and to many women in our city and beyond.

All my visitors who don’t know who she was to Baltimore, please take the time to read this article written by Sam Sessa Baltimore Sun reporter…
