Links To A Couple Vst Instruments:Bass And Kore

Posted by Ms.Tris On March - 24 - 20092 COMMENTS

Good Morning All. I’m already working hard on some club bangers. I found a couple nice Vst Instruments last night. I’m loading them in Reaper right after this post..:-)

The first one is
I’ve featured his tutorials before. He made a cool bass vst and has it available for download here: Bass Vst Scroll down the page and look for
Rsound Dillie Base

The next one is from Native Instruments. It’s called Kore. There is a Kore2 out now which cost around $800.00. Wow it must be loaded with sounds!

Dilliot actually mentioned this in one of his videos. From what I read you get about 300Mb of instruments in the free one. You can update by purchasing more. You will have to sign up for the link through email and register the software even though it’s free.. Here is a video that explains how to download and install for use in Fl Studio..

There are more videos on Kore and some tutorials from Savage Tutorials ** hit more on the youtube info section**

Get the Kore download here:

Native Instruments Free Kore Player

Let me know how you like these.. I am ready to hear what they sound like..

Wasn’t supposed to post until Monday…I woke up feeling great and wanted to try something different..
I’m making a Dirty South download for all my emcees that support…I will update this post as I go along..bare with me lol I’m trying to make it happen by noon EST….
1st Step:9:52am
I added some hihats and a snare140 Bpm, the snare are really placed at 70 bpm..check the pic
and snippet:

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

be back in a few with more 🙂
2nd Step 10: 20 am: I changed the snare to one from my “Mighty Drum Kit. Added 3 kicks and combined to one channel or layered 3 kicks. I added and FPC and selected a random loop then used the Love Philter to put the Ms.Tris ‘stank” on it :-)..I might change this all later…oh I also changed the tempo to 149bpm..

Made the over used dirty south drum pattern lol with a little twist:

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

it may take me a little longer than noon because I’m doing this post as I go…stay tuned..brb

Step 3. Added A G E chord progression Using an organ vst around 10:45 ish am..
Next I added a simple Chord Progression using A G E triad chords. I added a flanger and chorus.. so I created a fresh sounding organ..nobody has this lol. Many producers have asked me where do I get my synths sounds. I use a lot of vsts, micron, motif or Reason… then added effects to make it

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

brb…now time for the melody.. I have to zone out for a bit until something touches me… Read the rest of this entry »

Posted by Ms.Tris On March - 13 - 2009ADD COMMENTS

Happy Friday All!~ Today’s post is a mix of life and music for me. A big shout out to the talented Sheila E. She and her family have been an inspiration to me for along time.

Sheila won the third season of ” Gone Country”… what an amazing thing after all the years in the music business as a Latin/Pop and R&B artist…

You can help Sheila celebrate and get into rotation on CMT, by voting on her uplifting video “Glorious Train” : Top Twenty Countdown Viewers Poll (no registration required)

Here is the video for the winning song…

Sheila E. “Glorious Train”

…she takes it to church at the end… the song is sort of a mix of country and gospel actually 🙂

Sheila has helped many throughout her career. Her latest movement is geared toward helping children. Elevate Hope Foundation (EHF) is a charity that provides abused and abandoned children an alternative method of therapy through music and the arts.

I will be doing a huge post about her “Elevate Hope” Foundation as soon as we can work out the details.

Here is thee video of her hit ” The Glamorous Life”.. although her career was well on the way, this was the official world wide introduction to Sheila E. in 1984! It’s been 25 years since Glamorous Life was released, how about we mention longevity… wow! Still doing her thing in a whole new genre.

Black Milk Interview by G Journalism

Posted by Ms.Tris On March - 11 - 2009ADD COMMENTS

Hey all…guess what I did?? REPLACED my own power supply and saved a lot of I will post all the details in a the first DYI pc tutorial sometime very soon. Just in case any one else runs into some of the same problems I’ve had.

Today’s post brings up a few salty feelings for me (nothing against Black Milk or G Journalism). I got a new toy for xmas 08:

It was given to me all for YOU!~ A gift for me to do live tutorials and producer interviews. I had high hopes of starting with some Black Milk footage. He performed at the JDilla Tribute here in Baltimore. It was a great performance!~ Everyone got pictures and talked to him after the show… everyone except yours trully.. 🙁 . Getting used to my new directors role, I left the camera on after recording some of the opening acts.. yay for opening act footage but Booooo to dead battery lol.. by the time Black Milk hit the stage the new toy was out of juice.

I’m on top of things with it a little more. We’ll get to some live beat banging next month…

Check out how things work. I got a twitter about a couple recent Black Milk interviews from Pyramidwest on Twitter. It’s like they read my mind …
So here you go. Now we can all enjoy Black Milk speaking openly about the beats, new happenings, and how he got started. Thanks to Guerrilla Journalism for the scoop! I feel much better about missing an op 🙂

Recording Vocals: Quick Start

Posted by Ms.Tris On March - 10 - 20093 COMMENTS

What’s good with you ? Hope all is well and the beats are bangin! The unthinkable has occurred…my main pc is super dead ..but I won’t let that stop me. I’m sure I just need to replace the power supply, guess I’ll hit up the Geek Squad or something… anywho’s… I must carry on either using my laptop or all hardware. Looks like I’ll be having an interesting week…

I have a vocal session this week which reminded me I hadn’t done another post about recording them. I’ve been practicing and I have some suggestions from the few sessions I’ve done.

Professional studios usually spend high dollars on microphones and hardware needed to record vocals as clear as possible. There are several types of microphones on the market as well. You may have heard the names: condensor, cardoid, and omni-directional. All serving specific purposes. One of the most popular for vocals being the “condensor ” type.

With anything, we will all get what we pay for. Mics can be more expensive than Mpcs and Keyboards. What ever your set up, always remember you will need a “good clear vocal signal” going into your multitrack environment. If we pay 30$ , then we’ll get a 30$ signal most likely. If you have a low end mic you may be able to tweak out some of the hiss and noise. In the long run, the low cost mic will become time consuming because it takes so much to fix the recordings. Overall you may have to adjust levels using eq and effects like “hiss removal”. The better the mic signal going into the recording software/hardware means less chance of recording unwanted noise signals.

If you plan on doing vocals seriously, I suggest a good mic. I started with a RadioShack mic, which cost between 40- 50 bucks. I upgraded to a $199 audio technica which serves my set up well. Without any knowledge of mixing, I heard the difference immediately after changing them over.

I’d consider this a starter mic. Since I’ve purchased it, there have been several mics that have been released within the same price range. You will have to google the specs and compare what’s best for your work flow. I have suggested to someone setting up a studio on a small budget to start around the 200$ range. After researching, and hearing stories from other studios, the mics around that price work fine for new engineers. The recordings may require a little more labor..but they work!

Using Reason As A Sound Mod With Mpc

Posted by Ms.Tris On March - 6 - 20094 COMMENTS

Happy Friday All 🙂 Woohoo… Today is gonna be warmer than usual as we enter into Spring. It’s days like this that I have to close the blinds so I won’t be tempted to go outside and stay

It’s also days like this where a little youtube motivation helps me get into work mode. While I was at the No Guts No Glory Battle, I was discussing how I’m slowly getting into using the Mpc efficiently. My thing with production that I work on constantly other than mixing, is: it takes me forever to make the HITS… don’t get me wrong, I can make a beat within an hour. It’s the sure fire bangers that take me a lonnnggg time. I use a lot of percussion tracks which gets so time consuming on the Mpc. I also like to turn knobs on vsts and when I use Reasons Malstrom or Subtractor.

My fam and great producer “Phathead” mentioned that I could use my software as a sound module. I told him ” well I’ve got the motif connected…don’t really need to use them”… WRONG!

I logged onto Youtube this morning, not even thinking about the conversation nor possibilities of using my software as a module..and BOOM ..clicking around on my subscribed channels I found a few videos about it. I may have mentioned this before, but I haven’t seen the videos I’ll be posting today.

After trying it out, my mind just opened up to an exciting new way of using the mpc. Well it’s not new, but new to me using it. Now if I can figure out how to have multiple instruments from Reason on different tracks in the Mpc; I can see how this will help.

I know Reason and Fl Studio very well. I love the ability to use Vsts in Fl Studio, as well as Reasons samplers and modules. On the other hand the Mpc kicks are my absolute best! The thing is I am super slow using the Mpc for anything. lol…I think it’s the knob turning, the pc just seems so much faster when tweaking synth sounds and doing major percussion work. Also, adjusting the actual sounds from the motif rack takes a good little while itself.

Whala! Best of both worlds.. I can play the mpc drums, then get all my synths and percs from Reason or Fl Studio..yay. I can also use my hardware synths, all sequenced in one place on the Mpc.

Some of you may think ” Why don’t you just sequence in Protools or Reaper?”. Well then I’d have to use Rewire, and midi tracks. Both require bouncing the midi to audio files. Using software as modules I can record all on the mpc, record into the multitrack and work strictly with audio files. This makes it much easier as a beginner to mixing.

I’m still thinking all this through.. so please enjoy the videos and let me know if you have any suggestions.

Happy Beat Making To All
