How To Do Automation In Studio One

Posted by Ms.Tris On July - 11 - 20122 COMMENTS

Wonderful day to ya! Having some fun this morning mixing a few tracks and trying out a few new tricks. I am about to try pitch automation. I recently did a huge set up with all my favorite software. I had everything going through Fl Studio 10. This worked fairly well and I am still testing a few things. What I’ve done is Rewired Fl Studio, Reason, and Reaper; sequencing using Maschine. Everyone wanted to know why would I do all Well, each has something I love, and of course I like trying new things. I am also finding out which set up will make it easiest if I need to use either program. Here’s what I mean: Let’s say I am using Fl Studio but would like to throw in sounds from Reason, and record a hook. This for me is a hassle doing it all in Fl, so I need to use Reaper or Studio One. Or how about Ni Maschine with Fl Studio’s mixer and Reason NNXT..again not convenient inside Fl Studio. So I am making a template where I can load one program and use every single production element I own if I’d like to.

Studio One 2 has been working very well with everything. There’s not much of a learning curve and so far it’s easiest for me to get a decent mix. Presonus has made this DAW basically click and go. Another cool thing is you can do several automated steps on one track without having tons of automation lanes open. Here’s a video which explains Studio One Automation. Remember a lot of this can be done in other the other DAWS. It’s just that I am using Studio One today. I will post about automation in Fl Studio in the near future.

Really easy huh?…let me know if you are using Studio One, as I get more used to it I may need some tips :)..

Great day to you! I hope you and your family are safe..we had power outages, trees down, and a whole lot more here. Crazy tornado type storm caught us off guard but I am grateful, safe, and all is well today. I only need Comcast back on …thank goodness for this Sprint Mobile Hot Spot :)..I am online working because of it….

How are your theory lessons going? I am improving, not quite as fast as I ‘d like but going forward is a wonderful thing. Check out this video which really put something into perspective.

How to Match Chords up with any Melody

The best part for me is when he sings the tune along with showing the chord. I thought “Ah HA!”, now I can hear something that I could not before. The exact key with the exact chord will be much easier to find now. If you are using just a melody and no lyrics, you can hum the melody and use this same technique to find the chords…pretty cool!

How To Mix Inside Fl Studio

Posted by Ms.Tris On June - 28 - 2012ADD COMMENTS

Hey Hey my great producers! It’s going to be extremely hot over the next few days. Please be sure to drink plenty water and take the heat seriously. It looks like we’ll have record breaking heat by Saturday…..

I’ve been rolling out a few bangers lately using FL Studio 10. I must say my mix is getting a lot better. Once you begin to understand the frequencies, monitoring, and how to use effects it gets easier. I am still seeking a wonderful mix straight from my production software. I think this helps a lot when you need to work fast but efficiently. I’ve come up with a few techniques which are working for me. I found a video which is close to what I do and is an easy way to start for those new to mixing ” inside the box” using FL Studio.

Mixing and Mastering Preperation Basic Tips for using FL Studio 10

Tyler Clark has a nice YouTube channel featuring his production and tutorials.Stop by and check out more when you have time.

Remember many techniques you see here can easily be transferred to any DAW or Production program like Reason. Also nothing is set in stone and you may come up with your own way to do the exact same thing. If you are doing tutorials please share a link and I will help you promote it.

How To Rewire Fl Studio and Reason

Posted by Ms.Tris On June - 15 - 2012ADD COMMENTS

Great Friday to you! It’s been a full week for me. I managed to end math class and make a few beats. I used Fl Studio all week, and I wanted to try some sound design with Reason’s Malstrom synth. I had the rewire going smoothly, but was only using one Reason track at a time. Today I’d like to set up a template with multiple outs from Reason to Fl Studio. I’ve mentioned How To Rewire Reason To Various DAWS before. The first video showing how to Rewire Fl Studio and Reason isn’t visually clear. Here is another video that is precisely done for Fl Studio and will help take things a step further. I am sure watching both will get the ball rolling for me this morning…

How To Select Studio Monitors and Place Them

Posted by Ms.Tris On June - 7 - 2012ADD COMMENTS

Hey you! What’s great in music this week? I’m working diligently on music as I get closer to my one course ending. After this math class, it’s back to two courses and less to less music but Yaaay to more knowledge…:) A little reminder: When I skip a week of posting, I am deeply into two classes. My schedule is 5.5 weeks of two course then 5.5 weeks of one course. Please know that I work hard to leave you plenty information to check out if I’ll be away. I appreciate you holding me down by visiting, emailing, and commenting.

Wow!! I’ve been back on my trusty program Fl Studio 10. I am loving the mix I’ve been getting. One thing I’ve learned this week is to leave plenty headroom everywhere. I had been mixing way too loud and loosing all kinds of frequencies. I’ve also been setting my monitor volume lower while mixing to avoid ear fatigue. Fl Studio’s plugins are awesome as well…the parametric eq2 is very useful for all instruments! We’ll surely get into more post about how to use the included effects…they really work when you learn how to use them…

I have the KRK Rokit 5 monitors and the M-audio Studiophile Av 30 in use in my lab. I haven’t posted enough about monitors here. It is extremely important to be able to hear what your beats really sound like. Every set of monitors handles different frequencies in different ways. It’s good to get an idea of what monitors do and how to place them in your studio. I found two useful videos to share all about monitors, and placement:

How To Put Kong Pads On Separate Tracks

Posted by Ms.Tris On May - 31 - 2012ADD COMMENTS

Hey, Hey, Hey!! How are you enjoying the wonderful weather…it’s been rainy here, but between the rain is beautiful sunny sun :)….

I’m working on some dubstep tracks today. I know for what I’d like to do, Maschine and Reason is the fastest route this morning. There is a movement in music with house, club, pop, and dubstep. I’ll be posting a little more about them collaboratively. I try to be a well rounded producer, and of course I want to share the new new for those venturing in other directions outside Hip Hop.

It seems whenever I start software I haven’t used in a while, I wind up learning something new about it. I’ll spend about 30 minutes before I start the beat. This keeps me up to date and fresh on the program. Practice also makes new updates and changes less of a challenge.

For this mornings practice I loaded up Kong. It’s been a while since I used Reason’s Kong , and I’ll need to add effects to the individual drum pads. First I’d like to place each pad on it’s own mixer channel. Once this is set up, I can route effects to them from the rear Reason Panel. I found a video explaining, and it is definitely a wonderful find. The producer that uploaded the gem is signed to Jermaine Dupri’s So So Def Label. His name is Bigg Vic and it seems he got his deal from his beat making videos. Be sure to stop by and subscribe, he’s got a lot of valuable info on his channel:
