What’s up my great people? I’m sort of off to the musical races this morning. I have sessions later and I must get two tracks done before. I’m loving Presonous Studio One right now. It’s drag and drop work flow are out of this world. I will surely update to Pro later on this spring or early summer.

Another feature which Studio One makes easy is sidechaining. There is not much routing to do at all. Basically you drag a compressor onto a track and select a few settings, next send the track that needs ducking to it. Here is a video by Tim McMahon Vids which explains:

If your asking why would she need to sidechain? Imagine having a bass and kick drum in the same frequency. You would surely have to cut some frequencies in order to hear them both as clearly as possible. With sidechaining, you can have one sound “ducking” behind the other. This means when the kick plays the bass will stop or vice versa, depending on how you set up your compressor.

Here’s a link to an easy read tutorial all about sidechaining and ducking. You’ll also find a link to a free side chain compressor as well…

sonictransfer.com/side-chain-compression-tutorial

Remember the same concept can be used with most DAWS. You may have to read how to set up each track in your specific program manual. I’m off to try this right away..and wish you luck as well..

Studio One Pro: What’s Inside?

Posted by Ms.Tris On May - 6 - 2011

Happy Friday To All!…it’s beautiful here today woohoo! I’ve been out and about all morning, back inside to get some mixing done. I’m trying out a different DAW today. When I had the Alienware PC, I bought a Presonus Firestudio Mobile because the computer had a firewire port. I keep hearing firewire is better than USB, so I figured why not. I hadn’t gotten around to trying the software which came with it, “Studio One Artist”. After sitting down with it for the last two days, I am pretty impressed.

Presonus has really made an intuitive program. I am loving the drag and drop features as well as quick and easy time stretching. There are many more features even in the beginners Artist version. The Pro software is loaded with more effects and the ability to load vst plug ins. I’m thinking about upgrading later on, until then I’m checking out a few videos.

My 1st beat idea…I made this yesterday, I haven’t finished the beat but you can see Fl Studio 10 in action. It also gave me a chance to practice a little video editing…the drums aren’t quantized and no mixing was done..but it’s a good start :)

Hit N Mix: Strip Mp3′s Down To The Basics?

Posted by Ms.Tris On March - 30 - 2011

Hit N Mix Logo from http://hitnmix.com

(Brr..can we say hurry up Spring? It’s freezing today)…..Great morning to all. I’m working on an artist’s track, a special request that has me a little stumped. Its using an 80′s sample. The song has so many loud snares. I have been filtering like crazy this week trying to remove them as much as possible.

While surfing last month I found a neat little program. If this works all those who sample will want to have it! Made specifically for sampling and remixing, it is software that separates different elements within the track. WoW…Just thinking I could surely use this on the beat I am working on now. Here is a brief description from the official website:

Ground-breaking, unique and fun – Tears apart MP3s/CD tracks and unlocks their basic building blocks – the individual vocals, instruments, percussion & ambient noise!

Let’s look at the video to see what this is all about:
Hit’n'Mix – Tear Apart MP3s & CD Tracks

You can find out more info and get the file at:

This could spark a whole new lane in music really. I’m going to download the free version and try it out right now…

Native Instruments Maschine: How To Make VST Templates

Posted by Ms.Tris On February - 16 - 2011

Great Morning to ya! I’ve been rolling heavy with the production this week…working on music for 4 artist..busy busy..

I absolutely LOVE the new Maschine update. I have been working a lot faster with the addition of vst instruments inside the stand alone version.

I am still working out a few quick start up templates on my own. I found a video which pretty much sums up what I’ve been doing. It’s so much easier to start projects using templates. It really comes in handy when you need to load up general instruments like bass, keys, synths, etc.

Native Instruments Maschine 1.6 Custom VST Chains

I like the tutorial and his studio is awesome! lol Check out more videos from Matt at :mcsg27 youtube channel

Remember you can use templates in all your music production software.. Fl Studio, Reason etc. Have fun with it, but be sure to make templates that help you work smarter …
