This Year From Akai: Renaissance, Mpc Studio, & Fly

Posted by Ms.Tris On January - 18 - 2012

I was hit with several tweets and emails about Akai’s new new. The amazing looking Renaissance, it’s baby brother Mpc Studio, and mobile solution Fly. Many are comparing them to Native Instruments Maschine and Mikro. I am sure that’s exactly what the products aim to top. I love Maschine, and I can wait to see what’s next to come from Native Instruments. Let’s the games begin!

Check out the promo videos if you haven’t seen them:

I’m one who loves new tech stuff. I’ll take a trip to guitar center to check them out when available. So far the only thing I see in the promo that moved me is the mixer included in the software. I really like the design colors as well, so I guess that’s two things :)….oh wait and the midi outs and stereo connections and…ha ha..I like it!

How To Sync Akai Mpc With Fl Studio

Posted by Ms.Tris On June - 1 - 2011

Great morning to you…. feels like we skipped through the end of spring to summer…it’s code red heat on the east

I am in super beat mode this week. I have basically been real slow with adding new beats to the site. Mainly because I was having such a hard time mixing my tracks the way I like. Once projects got started, I found myself spending hours and hours just getting the kicks right. This was all due to new equipment and new mixers. Today I am so back in stride again. The set up I have now is perfect for me. I am still a newbie engineer, but the mixes are finally getting there.

I can say that the two years of mixing headaches helped me learn a lot. I know so much more about sound and frequencies. I understand what a compressor does, and most plugin effects as well. Sometimes you may not see the bigger picture, but hang in there when trying to get your sound correct. Keep creating and practicing the mix, good things will happen with your music.

I have all my software flowing smooth. Now it’s time for the final step of connecting all my hardware and syncing the midi. I am still trying to get the Mpc2500 to work as a Slave to my DAW. I don’t like sequencing on the Mpc. I figure I could use it as a module while running other hardware via “midi thru”, and recording the midi inside the DAW. I’m also revisiting a few videos that I posted about using Reason as a sound module in the mpc:
Using Reason As A Sound Module With Mpc

I am basically connecting everything to sync with one DAW. All hardware and all software to record inside Reaper or Studio One. After making a a beat yesterday with Fl Studio, I realized I’ve never tried to sync the mpc2500 to it at all. Since I am in tech mode, I figured I may as well give it a go…

Here is a quick video which is not high quality but gets straight to the point:

Mpc Beat Making: Nasir And Greem

Posted by Ms.Tris Beats On December - 1 - 2009

Good morning all..Hope your week is off to a great start…

Mpc flash drive

MPC2000xl – Nasir – Making A Beat
I’m about to get it going with some sample beats. Nothing like a good video to get in the mood for chopping. Sample heads will appreciate this. The sample playing at the beginning is so soulful..I’m really feeling the chops and the beat. They kept the video nice and raw as well. No mixing just a straight beat here…

Mpc 1000 – Greem (Producer Exclusive) – Making The Beat 4
The next one is cool. He’s using a very popular sample from The Dells “The Love We Had”DellsD11
He also uses a midi controller to play samples during the beat making process ..

Mpc Tuesday:Time Signatures

Posted by Ms.Tris On July - 14 - 2009

Hey all, how are you? I have the Mpc fired up, about to make a beat for a new artist that I will feature here very soon. Hopefully he’ll record at my studio so I can capture the footage.

I’ve had my Mpc for about 2 yrs now. I must confess I don’t use it often enough. First it was the learning curve. Once I learned how to use it, I still thought I could use software more efficiently.

I sat down last week and made a beat on the Mpc2500 really quick. So I guess the final ice has been broken. 🙂

It is time for me to learn this piece of equipment like I know software. I am starting by changing the time signatures. I imagine this will help me get precise chops when recording in real time. Today I am fiddling around with an 8/4 time signature building the beat in 4 bar measures.

Q.First of all, what are time signatures? A.Time signatures are the amount of beats in a measure. Quite simple right? I know not so easy at first for me either lol…Well here is a video that explains time signatures clearly…

Before I begin my beat making, I need to know how to change the time signature. I couldn’t find many videos on this for the Mpc2500. I did find one for the 4000.
Expert Village:How to Use the Akai MPC 4000 : Time Signature on the Akai MPC 4000

This is explained on the 4000, but I am pretty sure all mpcs have the same function.
“On the Mpc2500 scroll to the “Tsig 4/4” , highlight the “4/4″ part and select Window to open the editing screen…”

I’ll let you know the how the 8/4 turns out. Mpc users what time signatures do you use? and what time signature settings do you think work best for hiphop? Hit me up with some comments below, I’d really like to get some feedback..
