Wonderful morning to you! It’s rainy and I will be doing animation all morning, clearing the way for some DYNAMIC BEATS later on. (which reminds me, I have a lot to share with you about Dynamic Producer!!!)..
I upgraded to Reason 6.5 finally back in November. I am loving it and use it combined with Maschine drums by way of importing drums and rewire. I think the only thing Reason needs is the implementation of VSTI. With the addition of Rack Exapansions I am not sure this will ever happen. You know me if there is a work around I will find it!. Looks like Reason 7 may be a key to using anything external. I am excited about this because I could easily have my VSTI’s on my laptop and use them inside Reason with this update.
To think I almost got rid of a few things like the Micron and Motif. Now I can use them inside Reason 7…woo hoo 🙂
Happy Friday and first day of March..Spring is on the way!
I am setting up new templates today. I finally have gotten my schedule where I can actually make music again yaaaay! lol….. School has been very time consuming because I am in my coding and animation classes. I can’t promise anything right now …but I am still a 4.0 college student musician blogger ha ha :)…..
I am really starting to like Studio One 2.5 more and more. I rewired Reason 6.5 this morning. This is something I have been trying to do forever. I had to use the 64 bit version of Studio One because Reason 6.5 is 64 bit. This was a bummer because so many of my VSTI’s are 32 bit only, including Maschine. I decided to download and install a 32 bit version of Reason to work with Studio One 2.5 32 bit. While I was waiting for the download I found a cool video showing how to set up Maschine inside Studio One 2.5
This is a very nice video. He points out a few things I did not know about Studio One 2.5. Thanks DroFontane of Vip Soundlab! * This is actually a whole new way of setting up Maschine with all the instruments on separate mid channels going in and out..really nice.
I introduced Audible Mention a few months back. I had the honor of doing a guest post in September. It’s all about adding “The UMPH” to your drums. I added a video as well. Here is an exerpt which links to the full article:
Are you the greatest drummer that ever graced the planet? Oh the dreams of super producers like us! Though we may not be sitting behind a 50 piece Pearl set, there are ways to add spunk to your thump. Let’s imagine that you have created a basic 8 bar pattern. You’ve got your Drums That Match and Knock . You are now ready to add something to spice things up a bit. This something is what I call “The Umph”.
The “Umph” can be anything that meshes with the frequencies of your main pattern. For today’s post I started with a basic kick and snare pattern. I have some understanding about the frequency range of drums which our Audible Mention host explained as:
“20-10k is where you will find that sexy shimmer on hats and cymbals.
10-5k is where you’ll find the sound’s presence, meaning how close it seems to you. More importantly how close it is to other drums.
It has been a long minute.. I know I know..lol! The “Life” part got super crazy for me in October. I had to deal with classes and the passing of two family members. One being my 3 year old malti-poo dog who was with me 24 hours a day. I mean this is the dog everyone called my little stalker..ha ha..I moved and she moved. No one ever had to look for her, because she’d be right at my feet.
I took that really hard, and still had to push on with music, college, and life. I think I told you all I got two puppies 3 year ago. Well the second dog moped and grieved so bad, we decided to get another one. We found one in Pennsylvania Dutch Country straight from a farm. She can’t replace my “Puppy Bear” but she really helped me rise from the funk I was in. We named the new puppy Ju Ju Be. We almost named her Malti-Monkey..rofl she is quite wild…
I really missed you all, and I tried to get a few post in. Minutes and my mind just would not allow me to type anything worth reading :(. One great thing about me..I am resilient as an athlete!! No stopping here, and I hope I encourage you to keep on through hard times.
The work I managed to do last month is still awesome. I am maintaining my 4.0 in courses. To my surprise Web Design and Interactive Media includes audio and video!! Wooo HOO again!. I have tons of things to share with you. I will most likely post 1-3 times a week until I get things rolling smoothly again. I’ll be back in a few with a guest post I did for “Audible Mention”.
o.k. now that I am back, WHATS been Up WiTh YOU???? Those in the US are getting ready for Thanksgiving..but I wanna hear about the beats you’ve been cookin 🙂
I hope your unofficial end of summer weekend went great. Happy Labor Day to ya!! I have some interesting things to share with you from last weeks Sheila E. concert. I’ll be posting a video up before the end of the week….I am also seriously busy starting today, I’ll fill you in on that too…

Well Well 2 the WELL!! Look what we have here! I admit I am such a fan of great musicians especially the ones who make hip hop in melodic fashion. If you have been on Soundclick in the past 4 years you have surely seen the name Johnny Juliano. He’s been topping the charts with almost each uploaded track. Johnny has also produced records for Wiz Khalifa and other industry artist.
What makes Johnny stand out from the rest for me is he incorporates Funk into his grooves. What I mean by that can only be referenced by listening to the artist of the 80’s. Anything coming from Princes Purple camp, or the wonderfully funky George Clinton crew. They use melodies in a certain way that heavily relies on manipulating scales in a moving manner.
The second thing that caught my ear are Johnny’s amazing mixes. I love the strong clarity that can be noticed in each beat. All this from inside Fl Studio? WOW…You can hear a collection of some of his works here:
Recently Juliano has been sharing tips and tricks. He’s released his first mixing video as many producers requested. The video touches on the basics of mixing inside Fl Studio. Hopefully he’ll continue to release them. You all know I am a strong believer of “each one teach one”. Thanks Johnny for sharing your knowledge!
Hey Hey…have you heard about Native Instruments Maschine newness? Wow this caught me off guard lol. It’s some of the same features with even better additions like color coded pads which match the colors on the scenes. One of the most sought additions is time-stretch and pitch shift. When I first saw the picture I thought” Ummn… I’m not going to upgrade it looks kinda too colorful”. Now I know that the colors have a very cool purpose.
Here are some of the new things included from the Native Instruments website: Perform In Color
The new color-coding lets you ‘see’ your sounds, and it will turbo-charge your workflow.
Simply assign colors to the groups, sounds, patterns, and scenes, and see the pads and group buttons on the hardware light up in the same colors. Make your kick drums red, for example, and you’ll always know which pads play your kicks. Add some color to your performances!
And with the increased sensitivity of the new pads, you also have a new level of precision at your fingertips.
New Master Section
The Master section has been redesigned. Control volume, tempo and swing with the new multifunction master push encoder – select modes with the new toggle buttons and accurately click through values without having to look at the screen or display.
Navigating and scrubbing are much easier, and changing note pitch and detailed tweaking becomes extra-precise thanks to the encoder’s superb physical response.
Now with 47 white, backlit click-buttons and colored transport controls, the Mk2 hardware provides a wealth of physical and visual excitement for intuitive beat making.
Jeremy Ellis The New Maschine Generation:
This is really interesting! I am hoping Maschine owners are able to purchase the new controller separately with a little discount :). There are many new things to check out about Maschine including Os update, build, and effects:
