Hey Hey all .. this is how I like to network. Stress was one of the 1st artist I posted about: feature-artist-stress. His manager reached out to me when I was a new blogger. It took us a while due to my schedule. I finally got Stress some beats, now we are rolling with some heat!
This has a super catchy hook…

Other than Baltimore artist, I haven’t posted alot of music I produced on the site yet. Some projects I work on are complete albums. Since it’s a joint effort, I respect when the artist wants me to blast material or not. To all artist that I’ve done songs with, just let me know what you want me to post.
I’ve made a few more connections with new artist here, know that we will be moving on our songs soon. ( Purp Reynolds out of cali is next)
I will be adding much more now that everyone seems to be doing mixtapes. It’s the perfect time for music so you can play it your vehicles during nice weather
I got up with my “mans -n- nem” (a few close friends ) yesterday, and boy am I really feeling music and life right about now. I’ve been on this crate digging kick for a little while, almost a month to be exact. You ever get that feeling that you just wanna make some good ol’ classic boom bap hip hop?
There have been a few things fueling this return to the classics. Gee Wiz and the Speaker Boxin Beat Battle, Shaka Pitts Spitters Club, hooking up with artist who only do lyrical material…. all that and more. The one meeting that has just put the fire to the match comes with a story….
Bilal
I met Bilal about 3 years ago at a battle. The host allowed him to get up on stage and make some announcements. He was wearing work attire and said he’d come to the show straight from the office. He told the Baltimore hip hop community that he had big plans for us, and for all to contact him for more details.
The details weren’t hard to find. In a blink of an eye, he was all over the city in his “Crush Force T.V” Truck. Bilal would be at every show, making power moves, and giving all local artist national shine. I was impressed by his grind. It seemed he was a “Force” that we needed to be involved in the B-more hip hop movement.
Full of surprises, I was watching a local television station and up pops Bilal doing interviews… lol
I thought wow this guy is really making some power moves. Every time he saw me he’d say ” I need some beats for the show”. I don’t know why I took so long, but we finally had a brief meeting at his office. I was very busy with music, and he was busy with his show. Time passed and we didn’t keep in touch … matter of fact I stopped seeing Bilal as much at events. Later on folks were asking ” Where’s Bilal?”….. BILAL went missing…. was the word on the streets…….
Not …..
Two weeks ago, I was visiting StreetLegal Ent Studios and in walks Bilal! I was shocked….. Here is the kicker… since he’s been mysteriously missing, Bilal has recorded 4 albums, coached little league football, hosted an **underwater** show for children, been in the studio with Floetry, been to Africa, teaching classes,….. the list goes on….WOW again!
Talk about an inspiration. Bilal is doing positive hip hop, and helping children as much as he can. It’s like he’s found his calling, motivating our future leaders, cultivating a healthy mind state in our youth.
He has been traveling filling his mind and camera with wonderful things abroad. This allows Bilal to bring first hand cultural experiences to his classes. His next stop is China and you can help send Bilal for study. Please visit his site to sponsor or make donations. Every bit helps, and this is surely a worthy cause:
I am excited to say, Bilal and I will be doing some music very soon. I ‘ll be sure to keep you posted. Until then, have a look at Bilal at work, and be inspired!~ I sure am..

Hey all, what’ been up with you? I hope all is well and you are preparing for 2009. I’ve signed on for my second project which is based upon poetry. I am excited because the first one ” Screen Test… Those Who Have Ears Let Them Hear” by Keybe Writes, is coming swiftly to a complete wrap. We have been getting rave reviews, although it’s really been hush hush since we started. This is a mini intro, and you will hear a lot more from Keybe very soon, including full bio, song samples, and words of inspiration. After hearing a test copy of “Screen Test”, spoken word artist “CoCoa” from L.A via Colorado has hired me for her cd. Yaay!
I missed a few days of posting and always like to keep you filled in. Over the past weekend we started drafting the artwork for the Cd, and they go to duplication on Friday. I learned that producers must share a complete vision with the artist. Keep in mind that you may have a hand in giving ideas for artwork on your projects as well as music. Here is a sneak preview of our rough first draft for cover design:
Keybe Writes “Screen Test” is poetry and prose works over Hip Hop beats. We started while I was working on the set of “The Wire”. I learned a lot from working with Keybe. Not only were her work ethics superb, her writings touched my soul and inspired me. She had a vision and came well prepared. This made it a little easier for me being “Screen Test” is the first project I’ve done with more neo-soul/ R&B type hip hop. This is my third project as sole producer, and Keybe’s introduction to the world.
I’d like to remind you as I start production for the next, there are many options for your beats. Think lyrics, poems, T.V., and soundtracks. Always keep an open mind when creating your masterpiece!~ There are many option for your beats.
Baltimore Hip Hop is alive and thriving, yet there are very few female artist on the scene. I met Mzery about three or four years ago at Brown Sugar Mondays. I remember her performing over a few classic boom bap beats that made your head nod.
Her delivery reminds me of the female pioneers like Queen Latifah and Mc Lyte. Keeping her subjects more on the conscious side, her cd may be a breath of fresh air for those longing for true well written hip hop in the days of money, swagger, and anything goes.
Her latest live shows include a still developing all female band. She’s looking for a keyboard player, if there are any females in the Md Va De area that play the keys hit Mzery up for a gig.
“Herstory 101″ is the name of her latest cd. Check out Mzery’s ” Buddha Stance”

I was officially done posting today, but I had to come back one more again. AJ Rok Woodson hit me with an interesting email:
This email was inspired by what i saw last night on Hip Hop Vs America on BET.
We are quick to talk about and complain about what’s wrong with hip-hop, about the lyrics and images that are being force fed to out youth, to our young sisters.
We are quick to forward every email about R Kelly, Don Imus and anything else that negative, but rarely do we do anything about it. Conversation is good but its only a start.
I am doin promotions for a Atlanta based rap group called Vintage Imperial, they have a new record called GIRLS ROCK TOO!
Now I challenge everyone, especially my sistahs who are tired or the negative portrayal of females in hip-hop.
Listen to this records, if ya feel it, forward to all your people, post this track on your myspace pages, your blogs, your black planet pages, your websites, put in on ya mp3 player, burn to a cd and play in ya cars, play it for ya daughters and ya sons for that matter
Artists like these don’t receive love for commercial radio and entities like BET and MTV. These records don’t get written about in your major newspapers or magazines like Ebony, Jet, and Essence. So rarely do you know they exist. Today is your chance to change that.
So we are goin to by past the commercial radio stations, BET and other entities that
keep feeding our kids the poison, and go straight to the people. Enuf people feel this and talk about this and post this and play this, the radio must step up to the plate.
While this is not ya traditional way or working a record, traditional ways arent working anymore.
“When you do the common things in life in an uncommon way,
you will command the attention of the world.”
- Dr. George Washington Carver
Now I know this will not single-handedly change the face of hip-hop by itself, but neither does sitting around the water cooler or wherever complaining about it. But until we let the world know these kind of records exist, until we let them know there is real hip hop out there we cant expect people to play or request these songs. So I am on a mission to get the word out by any means necessary and the same way we forward emails with negative news to everyone in our address books, I challenge you to do the same with this email.
help spread the word. Lets stop saying what’s bad and show the world what’s good.

You want a change, you want to hear something different, show the major corporations that control what you listen to and watch that you want more and
help me spread the word about this track and others like this.

Thanks to Prezidential Records for giving me the tip on artist with “Five Hots”… next up is Stress, an emcee straight outta Queens. If you are a fan of Fabolous, you’re gonna love Stress. On a rainy Friday morn his hit single ” Show Me” has the head nod factor off the meter! Having sold 10,000 copies of his album “Who Am I”, He’s using his indy hustle to reach the top.
“..Put ya hands up if you get money…” Stress definitely has that Big Swagg for the masses. He’s keeping the art of lyricism sparked with hot punch lines and clever metaphors. Another favorite about Stress is his choice of beats. Leaning towards tracks with an eastcoast bounce feel, he’s chosen the right back drop for his street certified lyrics….
