NI Maschine Custom Designs

Posted by Ms.Tris On June - 13 - 2011

Gonna be a beautiful day..great weather..good way to start the week….

Well well well..here is something cool for Maschine owners. I posted about the Style Flip layout for Maschine a few months ago. I designed a rough draft also. I never got around to ordering, but still wanted to check out a few different options.

While on the Native Instruments forum, I came across a thread with quite interesting design and wood grain side attachments. The extra bonus is the designer has a DYI template for those who are visual artist and producers:

Wow! My mind is spinning thinking of all the possibilities..lol I could order a few and have maschine match my outfit, or match the colors in my lab…nice!

My Mini Vacation

Posted by Ms.Tris On June - 12 - 2011

Waaaazzz up all.. I took a little mini vacation last week. I went to the beach a few days, and got a tiny bit of rest..you know it’s always hard to relax when you only have a short time.

I went to Ocean City Md, and stayed in a condo right on the shoreline. The view was so amazing!! Here are few pictures I took while there:

NI Maschine Multiple Outs + Fl Studio Template

Posted by Ms.Tris On June - 3 - 2011

Happy Friday! ..Much to do today before a fun weekend….beats, beats, and more beats..:)

I have everything connected to my pc now. All my hardware and software are synced fairly well. I am still fiddling with a few things. I have been using Native Instruments Maschine for 85% of my beats this year. I absolutely love it, and the work flow is a breeze. The thing is, I also love Fl Studio. The mixer in Fl Studio is my favorite. What I’d eventually like to do is use both Maschine and Fl Studio together. This way I can do a better mix of my Maschine beats using Fl Studio’s mixer.

The first problem I ran into was getting Fl Studio to detect Maschine as a plugin. On My Windows 7 system the file path to Fl Studio plugins looks like this:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Image-Line\FL Studio 10\Plugins\VST

I had to copy the Maschine.dll file into the Fl Studio 10\Plugins\VST Folder.(NOTE: I did not move the original Maschine.dll but I just made a COPY)

Once Fl Studio detected Maschine, I added a Machine Channel. I used the plug in wrapper to automap Maschine’s outputs. I got to Maschine’s wrapper by clicking the left hand menu and selecting “PROCESSING”;

Next I set up “Group A” outs from Maschine to 15 Fl Studio Mixer Channels.( NOTE:”OUT 1″ on Maschine will be assigned to Fl Studio’s Master Channel in the mixer)
This means I will have to assign my Maschine”outs” starting at “OUT 2″.

For example, in my Maschine Group A, I loaded the 808 Southern Kit. I send the 1st Instrument to “OUT 2″:

I continue to assign the other Maschine outs to 14 mixer channels in Fl Studio…Snare808= OUT 3…ClosedHH= OUT 4 and so on.

It took a few steps, and I’ve set up a template (.FLP file) if you’d like to have it:

Right Click to download:

Fl Studio Maschine 808kit Template

Keep in mind this is a basic template for 16 outs. I am still trying to figure out assigning channels manually. This way I’d be able to add more than one Maschine instance, which would allow more outs. (If you know how to do this please help :) …)

How To Sync Akai Mpc With Fl Studio

Posted by Ms.Tris On June - 1 - 2011

Great morning to you…. feels like we skipped through the end of spring to summer…it’s code red heat on the east coast..wow..

I am in super beat mode this week. I have basically been real slow with adding new beats to the site. Mainly because I was having such a hard time mixing my tracks the way I like. Once projects got started, I found myself spending hours and hours just getting the kicks right. This was all due to new equipment and new mixers. Today I am so back in stride again. The set up I have now is perfect for me. I am still a newbie engineer, but the mixes are finally getting there.

I can say that the two years of mixing headaches helped me learn a lot. I know so much more about sound and frequencies. I understand what a compressor does, and most plugin effects as well. Sometimes you may not see the bigger picture, but hang in there when trying to get your sound correct. Keep creating and practicing the mix, good things will happen with your music.

I have all my software flowing smooth. Now it’s time for the final step of connecting all my hardware and syncing the midi. I am still trying to get the Mpc2500 to work as a Slave to my DAW. I don’t like sequencing on the Mpc. I figure I could use it as a module while running other hardware via “midi thru”, and recording the midi inside the DAW. I’m also revisiting a few videos that I posted about using Reason as a sound module in the mpc:
Using Reason As A Sound Module With Mpc

I am basically connecting everything to sync with one DAW. All hardware and all software to record inside Reaper or Studio One. After making a a beat yesterday with Fl Studio, I realized I’ve never tried to sync the mpc2500 to it at all. Since I am in tech mode, I figured I may as well give it a go…

Here is a quick video which is not high quality but gets straight to the point:
