Key Chords: Chord Progression Discovery App

Posted by Ms.Tris On April - 25 - 2011

Hey Hey ..feels like we skipped spring and went straight to summer today..lol..

I’m so happy to tell you, that I’m well on my way with my guitar lessons. I know four chords, but my lil left pinky is still stiff as a board. I’m doing the dexterity exercises a lot this week.

I think I have found the jackpot of chord progression help :-) . It’s a site, as well as iphone app which gives you common chord progressions to use in your music.

It’s guitar based, but of course you can play the same progressions on piano or any instrument. I’ve been on the site daily since I found it. You can place your own chords for progressions and hear a demo of how it sounds. You can also do random progressions by “rolling the dice”. Here is a screen shot:

This is amazing! The official site is:www.drumbot.com. There are several handy tools for musicians, so click around..

The direct link to the online Key Chords software:Key Chords

The app is only 1.99 from the itunes store. I’m going to download the app as soon as I finish this post..woo hoo!

Happy Chord Finding To All…

Piano Chord Improv

Posted by Ms.Tris On April - 19 - 2011

What’s up? I’ve been out and about this morn running errands enjoying the warmer weather. When I returned, I didn’t know what I wanted to work on first today. I have been requested to do a few pop tracks. WoW I’ve been amazed at how fast I’ve been getting basic ideas down. The reason it’s been easy is definitely knowing a few chord progressions. Since I posted about chords and theory this week, we may as well check out more while its fresh.

Here is a video explaining how to use improvisation. If you have studied music theory you may have read or heard the term ” I IV V”, meaning the 1 4 5 chord progression. I know I have, and I still hadn’t gotten it down. After watching the video, I can find the “I IV V” chord progression in many scales…woo hoo!

Piano Improv Chord Progression Improvisation

The video is from PianoMother Youtube Channel. She is giving away valuable lessons in a way you will remember quickly. I also agree when she implies that we need to be able use the knowledge and techniques. I have been studying and know a lot more theory mentally. This means nothing if I can not sit down and play what I’ve learned on piano or guitar. The only way to do this is practice, practice, practice.

Piano Chord Tips and Songwriting

Posted by Ms.Tris On April - 11 - 2011

Great morning to you! I am feeling super :) Went to StreetLegal Studios last night for an epic session. Six emcees on a fire track I produced. I will surely keep you posted on this one!! …

I’m onto music theory lessons this morning. I have been working on a few pop type tracks for an artist. I am still having a little trouble doing the melodies before chords. So far it’s been easier for me to work, using chords 1st. Sometimes I have an idea in my head and need to lay it down before anything else. I know the only way to really get this down is to learn more music theory.

I found the perfect site that covers songwriting, theory, and song structure: garyewer.wordpress.com. The site theme is “The Essential Secrets of Songwriting”. I’ve read three articles that cleared up some of the chord and theory questions I’ve had for a while. It’s honestly one of the most complete music blogs I’ve read. I’m checking out another article now about What Is The Circle Of Fifths. Not only does author,Gary Ewer, explain theory in an easy manner, he also gives a few chord suggestions to help you understand his post clearly.

Like myself, I know that many of my readers use piano, keyboards, and or keyboard midi controllers. I am sure you will find tons of valuable info atGary Ewer’s blog. Since many aspects of music theory and songwriting are covered; writers, guitarist, and players of other instruments will benefit from the site also.

Do You Have Inconsiderate Neighbors?

Posted by Ms.Tris On April - 7 - 2011

What? A musician is posting about noisy neighbors :) ?… Well, yes I am. My lab is located in a condominium complex. I have been blessed with neighbors who have never really complained about loud music. I have, on occasion, played it pretty loud, mostly at the beginning of my career when I was young and didn’t know any better. With wisdom comes understanding, and I am a very polite producer now days.

Fourteen years living in a fairly quiet building, something some find very hard to believe. Yes, extremely pleased with my little cove…UNTIL… “Go Get Em Granny” moved in with her noisy grand kids…lol. Talk about inconsiderate? The first thing of many that comes to mind has to do with music. I remember clearly last spring on a Friday.

I’d gotten used to doing any mixing during the day when I know my neighbors are at work. When it was almost time for them to return, I’d switch to head phones. I was working on a track and I had it pretty loud with headphones on. I know it was loud because I could not hear if someone was at the door. Those are the times I let my dogs alert me by going crazy and scratching at my leg.

On this particular day I didn’t need the dogs to do a thing…Oh NO… LIL JOHN screaming “OKAY” did the trick! The neighbors grandson had a condo full of kids dancing above my head, blasting Lil John so loud I could record it clearly with my mic if I wanted…

This only added to the growing list of “Get Em Granny’s” antics. Who ever heard of anyone exercising enough at 4am to shake a neighbors wall paintings? I HAVE…. how about vacuuming at 10pm Monday night?…oh wait here’s one= carpet installed with heavy hammering on a Saturday..until 11pm???….

Yes the list goes on. I know I am not the only one who’s had issues with neighbors. This can be a very disturbing as well as a touchy issue to deal with. Just when I need it, Keybe Writes has “nailed” the subject in Dear Neighbor Apartment/Condominium Etiquette.
Amazon Product Description:
In Dear Neighbor: Apartment/Condominium Etiquette, author Keybe Writes examines issues that face apartment and condominium residents, and teaches us how to effectively deal with inconsiderate neighbors.

Covering thirty-six general topics like cleaning up after pets; keeping strange hours; overusing laundry facilities; and letting unruly, albeit cute, grandchildren rule the roost, Keybe gets to the point with sections like “Look Who’s Knocking,” “It Is What It Is: A Bag of Funky Trash,” and “Christmas in the Spring,” and also offers six courtesy letters such as “There Will Be Hammering,” “I Called the Exterminator,” and “Fight Night.” While some of the neighborly advice is comical, it’s also serious stuff. It’s not fun to live at the mercy of others-and it’s not right. For those who want a place to commiserate, here’s the perfect pad-no kids jumping up and down or bouncing balls on the second floor above our head and no loud music thumping in the middle of the night.

Not only does Keybe address issues that I’ve had, she’s included sample letters and rules of conduct which will help me be an ” A” game condo owner. It’s an easy read, full of laughs, and lots of things to consider while living as “more considerate neighbors”.
