Free Vst Effect Plug Ins: Bootsie’s Collection

Posted by Ms.Tris On January - 21 - 2011

What’s up with you? It’s Friday… yay! Who will go to the superbowl after this weekend? I am not as excited as I would have been if the RAVENS were playing..lol but can’t wait to watch the games….

varietyofsound.com

Now that I am on my way to becoming a great engineer, I have really been trying out different effect plug ins. I have some that I bought, and plenty freebies from the net. I haven’t gotten into all of them, but I found a few on my pc that have helped me tweak and mix a lot better than before.

Kvr’s Developers Challenge 1st place winner Bootsie has some serious free plug ins!!
I have had his collection sitting on my hard drive forever. I decided to give them a try last week. So far I am so stuck on the NastyVCS vst. I have tried it on kicks, snares, percs., and most often the final mix. It’s a console strip type vst. Bootsie describes it as “..tools for tone and dynamic shaping purposes..”

Not only does it actually work and work well, I am loving the design! You can tell all of the vsts took a lot of time to develope. Most of them are multi functional. You can use them on single tracks, or entire mixes. Here are images of two more that I plan to use today:

Free Online Guitar Lessons:Cyberfret.Com

Posted by Ms.Tris On January - 20 - 2011

The year is poppin’ already! I have started a few huge projects and the beats are being written to now. I even have a couple tracks with me on the hook and doing some verses :) . Yes back on my artistic grind again. I am finally in a place where I actually feel like writing (lyrics that is ..here on the blog we are cool :) ). I’ll be promoting a book that many of you will relate to..Noisy Neighbors ..lol. The book is called “Dear Neighbor”, written by Keybe Writes who will also release her poetry cd produced by me. I’ll be posting about both early February.

All the projects above kept me busy for months. I was looking at a few of my post from this time last year. I realized there are a lot of post I wanted to do and just could not squeeze in. I plan to do a little catching up starting now.

One of my main goals last year was to learn more guitar. I did well for about two months. When my music projects kicked in, I put my guitar on the stand, and there it stayed until this morning.

I am seriously back at it. I made myself a little weekly schedule which will include at least 2 hours of guitar practice. I am hoping to learn and play a few tunes in a few months. I’m checking out all the links I saved last year. I think I found the site that I will stick with through April:

www.cyberfret.com

This site is so complete for me. Some of the main features of the site includes:
Learn Guitar
Beginner Guitar Lessons
Guitar Chords
Guitar Scales
Guitar Arpeggios
Guitar Techniques
Guitar Styles

Theory & Composition
Music Theory
Ear Training
Songwriting for Guitar

Lead Guitar & Technique
Lead Guitar Solos
Guitar Chops

Guitar Music
Guitar Tablature
Reading Guitar Music
There is much more, but that’s enough for any beginner to use for starters. Of course I’ll continue to read my books and check in on youtube. Do any of you play guitar? Feel free to share your tips and advice for beginners in the comments…

Let’s Go !! It’s 2011
Happy learning guitar… Happy Beat Making To All

Hardware Vs. Software: DJ Toomp

Posted by Ms.Tris On January - 2 - 2011

Hey all! Happy Happy New Year again :) … I’m ready to roll…. how about you?

As technology advances at a rapid pace, more and more producers are turning completely to software. The plug-ins, vsts, and Daws are so amazing now. There is a software spin off for almost every hardware mixing console, synth, and even drum machines.

I have been in many discussions about which is better to use for production. I have even been in heated arguments defending my lil’ Fruityloops back in the day.

I started on an Asr10 and over the years went on to include software. I am settling in on a mixture of both. I think it really depends on preference and how well the mix is done. Sometimes it may be the listeners “trained ear” that matters. Some producers can immediately tell the difference between tracks made on software, compared to those made on hardware.

Dj Toomp does a great job explaining some of those key differences in the following video:

I can agree totally on the Mpc section. I’ve said this many times before, there is a certain sound to kicks that come from the Mpc. Mpc kicks are great, although you can get pretty close after learning a few mixing tricks.

What equipment are you all using to make your tracks? I’m be interested in learning more about you this year. This honestly helps me when making new post. Feel free to comment, ask question etc….
