Woo Weee! Thank God for another one! Last day of 2010 and my mini “end of the year” vacation. I’m feeling super excited about music right now. I hope you all have things in place with your life and music as we usher in the New New…
Be safe tonight, and have a wonderful time. Much Love to all! I appreciate you all… be back next week with some goodies to kick off 2011 < WOW 2011! …
Brrrr if you are on the east coast bundle up…snow is falling now!
I’m fixing things in my lab this week. I installed a new hard drive to my pc, as well as got help from Gee Wiz to get the thing up and running again. I decided to clean up my lab, since I had a bunch of old drives pulled out.
Just wanted to stop in and remind you to back up your drives, and get organized for the New Year. This is a good time to air out the pc or mac, dust the shelves etc. What projects do you have going? Hit me up with links or drop a line in comments if you’d like to be featured..
I’m going to get back to work so I can hurry and get back to mixing tracks and writing post
Hey Hey all… how’s your week going? I started pretty slow Monday, after staying up until the wee hours in the morn watching my Ravens loose to the Steelers booo… lol … but you know I still love the Ravens and we’re in good enough standings to make the playoffs…
I’ve really been playing a lot of tracks off “Pink Friday”. I noticed when I first heard “I’m The Best”, I immediately recognized the violin riff toward the end. I thought to myself “that’s the mad violinist for sure”.
I hadn’t had time to search all the track info, but knew it was produced by Kane Beatz. Ashanti “The Mad Violinist” is signed to Kane Beat’s The Building production team. I got confirmation from The Mad Violinist Twitter page, it is indeed him. Here is the snippet with the violin part: I’m The Best Violin Solo

Ashanti has been doing a lot of new covers and freestyles. This guy is so talented, and you can see he is passionate about his craft. Check out his renditions of Rick Ross’s “BMF” and Alicia Keys’s “Un-Thinkable”:

I could listen to him play for hours. Gonna check up and see what projects he’s got going on…
What’s good this afternoon? Have you been working on your mixes? I did a lot yesterday. Today I continued, and ran into a little wall. I was listening to a track and could hear one more synth in my head. I already knew which sound I wanted from the Malstrom in Reason. The problem is, I made the beat using Maschine inside Reaper. Now if I could just get that darn rewire to work ..lol I’d be on my way.
I am so glad I went searching the Reaper Resources . I found the best tutorial, and sat for a few hours this morning setting up a template. The best thing about this lesson is it shows you how to Rewire AND send MIDI between Reaper and Reason *yes double smiles for that *
I shall not tell you a lie… this took me a long time to really get it down. I worked through it, pausing the video after each step. Once I added a few modules in Reason and checked my recordings in Reaper, I did a few on my own. I am still working with a few tweaks, but now I can easily load a template and get started.
This really worked for me today. What I liked most is now I can record the entire beat inside Reason, then stream the audio into Reaper. This allows me to correct any midi inside Reason. I find this a bit easier than using Reapers midi editor.
The tutorial is from: http://tutorialsforreaper.com/. Like the name says it’s full of great Reaper videos. Stop by when you have a chance. I’m watching one more before I get back to work. Thanks again to tutorialsforreaper.com/.
Wooo weeee it’s raining like crazy this morning. Great time to mix a few tracks while staying inside all day. I switched completely to a digital mixer. The Edirol M-16DX is functioning as my sound card as well as mixer. It’s a perfect set up for me, but as a novice in engineering I totally goofed a few mixes. I winded up taking the artist to StreetLegal Recording Studios , so engineer Mark could fix the tracks.
One of the main things I learned is the digital mix should not peak anywhere. On my analogue mixer I could max a kick drum to almost in the “red” and it would still sound great. Not so in the digital realm. Maxing anything will cause the mix to sound so distorted that you’ll barely enjoy the beat you worked hard on.
Things started getting a little frustrating. I mean, I’ve learned so much about mixing, and suddenly nothing was working…lol NOT in my lab. I decided to conquer the digital giant, and I’m making progress yay!
I sat down last week and really got into setting up my mixer with Reaper. I searched the net for a few articles and made a return visit to such a helpful site: www.tweakheads.com. If you have not been there, it’s almost like college for production. Be sure to bookmark, and read through the articles.
I went through step by step, setting up both software and my mixer. I tried the techniques and they are working. This post isn’t specific to the edirol mixer. It will help you when mixing inside Reason, Protools, and Fl Studio etc. as well.
