Nicki Minaj Pink Friday + Performing w/ Rhianna, and Drake

Posted by Ms.Tris On November - 30 - 2010

Happy Tuesday! How was your holiday week? I had a fun time, and I did not over eat yaay :)

I had time to really listen to Nicki Minaj’s 1st official release “Pink Friday”. Again Young Money has shocked me. Like Drake, I didn’t expect so much singing from such a witty emcee. Smart move by Lil Wayne signing them. Both Drake and Nicki can sing. I am not mad with the cd at all. It’s been on repeat in the ride since I got it. It’s different, and at times she reminds me somewhat of Busta Ryhmes, when using all the crazy flows.

I did notice that Pink Friday incorporates a lot of pop type melodies through out. Heavy use of synths on almost every song. Some of you may wonder how to create the synth sounds heard in tracks like “Moment 4 Life ft Drake”. The sound I’m referring to comes in around 7 secs:

Well if you have Reason it can be achieved with the Malstrom or Subtractor. There are even a few free vst instruments that will help you come close like the Ugo Audio Rez2 or Superwave8. For the hardware lovers, the Alesis micron has almost the exact sound used in “Moment 4 Life”.

This is surely a theme song for me, I love uplifting songs that make me feel inspired to keep grinding with the music. I am also loving “Fly” featuring Rhianna. Did Rhi Rhi blaze that hook or what?… Check out some live footage from last Thursdays Thanksgiving show:

How To Chop Samples In Logic: Just Blaze

Posted by Ms.Tris On November - 18 - 2010

Happy Happy Thursday! This time next week I will have my apron on being chef :) . I know… I know the post have been about once or twice a week. Sometimes I have to remind all that I’m producer first, artist, then blogger lol. I had so many beats to make and mix. This is always a great thing, but it doesn’t leave much time to post :-( .. thanks all who continue to support the site, knowing that I post as much as I can, when I can. Much love to you all for that.

I hadn’t seen this next little tutorial from Just Blaze. I love his production work. Here he gives a quick example of sample chopping using Logic. The techniques he does can most likely be achieved in any Daw that has a ‘slice ” function.

Cool the way he just sliced on the down beats…. I must try that in Reaper :)

The video was uploaded by top engineer Mike Chav. His site has mixing info, drum kits and more; www.mikechav.com. Be sure to visit when you have time to look around.

Baltimore Beat Bangers Vol.1

Posted by Ms.Tris On November - 1 - 2010

Good morning all. How was your Halloween weekend? I went to two of my cousins high school football games. Both teams won yaay..and it was good to hang with my family.

I also participated in an all female hiphop panel at Morgan States radio station 88.9. It was so much fun and even more informative. Thanks to Flo and Ahk of Strictly HipHop.

I’m such a beat junkie lol…I’m always listening to beats from various producers. It often motivates me and it’s definitely one of my favorite pastimes.

I told you all about “www.allbmorehiphop.com”. Where you can find tons of hot music to download. Happy to say, Imahj Beats has started the ball rolling for producers.

He’s the mind behind “Baltimore Beat Bangers” which will showcase Baltimore’s hottest producers. Here is the track list for Vol.1 which includes all the producers chosen for the kick off and the tracks they submitted:

(check out new Ms.Tris Beats # 8 The First Time We Met and #21 Get With This :-) )

The official cd release party is Nov 11,2010 at Club Reality. Come out and network, meet the producers, and enjoy a great show.

Thanks again Imahj and Billy Lyve for making it happen..

A lot of producers release beat cd’s. This is a wonderful way to get your music out there. Not only do artist get to hear your creations, most begin to freestyle when they hear something they like. This means you have just made a potential customer of your works. This may be something to look into if you are trying to get your beats heard in your area.
