Mixing Tips:Kick Drum Tricks

The Ravens won last night..yaay .. I stayed up so late watching the NFL network. Some how I have energy this morning. I plan to work on drum patterns only today. I feel like coming up with something different, and out of the box.

I was working with the Redrum in Propellarheads Reason. I made a quick pattern, and sent each instrument to different lanes. I played both the pattern, and lanes together and really liked the way the kick sounds in the beat. I haven’t mixed this at all really, just got out the idea, and worked with the kick:

Since I switched, and am now recording with a digital mixer, I’m still working on getting my kick to knock hard. I’m about to try this in a few minutes,and wanted to share:

It’s sort of similar to the techniques I’ve posted before, but he does a little extra around 2:28.. let me know how this works for you 🙂
