Unwrapping MASCHINE

I was talking with a “#teammaschine” user who frequents MsTrisMusic.Com. He sparked the fire for me to do my 1st Maschine Tutorial post. Shouts out to @MrIIXI for this one, and the term ” teammaschine” :-)

If you haven’t had the chance to meet Native Instruments Maschine, the following video will give you the basic idea of what the fuss is about:
NI Maschine: Introduction

I got my Maschine in March. I have been really inspired to work on beats with it. I think I told you I heard about Maschine, then watched a few videos before making a decision to dip into my Roland Fantom money, and purchase one. You can read my introduction to Maschine here: MsTrisMusic NI Maschine.

Out of the box it was easy to get started. If you have used Fl Studio, Reason, Mpc, or other Daws to make beats, Maschine has all the basic features: There is a piano roll, pattern mode, pad mode, step sequencer, and more. The thing that’s a little different is Maschine uses “Scenes” to set up your song. For me, that was the only “uh-oh” moment.

The suggested work flow is to make several patterns, then place them in scenes arranging them how you wish. Sounds easy enough, but when I sat down to make a complete song it took a little thought.

I finally figured out the best and fasted way for me to get started. This tutorial will deal with Maschine Stand Alone installation.( I will do another post later this month with full Reaper routing). I will be using all Maschine included sounds for tutorial purposes. This is not a beat making tutorial, but one showing my way of beat creating, and arranging on Maschine using patterns and scenes

I load up Maschine, and load a drumkit into “Group A (808 Southern Kit)”, and a few sounds into “Group B”;

Next I’ll start with a 8 bar melody or drums in pattern “A1″. The cool thing about Maschine is each kit has some preset patterns to get you working quickly. I like this particular pattern for the 808 Southern kit so I’ll use it to keep rolling with the tutorial. This pattern will go in “Scene 1″ :

808 drum pattern
This is 1/2 or 8 bars of verse 1.

Posted by Ms.Tris On June - 1 - 2010

Digging Digging.. any sample heads out there who just can’t get enough funky breaks? Well, Well, Well!.. I forgot all about the Phat Drum Loops Site. I recently updated my bookmarks and found some gems like these there:

“Jaw Breaks, t4″ (74k)
A.B. Skhy, “Trackin’ Shoes” — [Manduro]

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

“Red Hot Beats, t5″ (26k)
Brass Ring, “Spinning Wheel” — [ Sureel]

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Most of the loops are lo fi mp2 files. It easy to convert them using an audio editor, as well as eq, filter and slice them. Try loading them into the free Beat Burner Vst for some cool effects.

Free Vst Downloads ll

Posted by Ms.Tris On June - 1 - 2010

Afternoon all… my weekend just ended. I slept a whole 10 hours after a bunch of cook outs with my family. I even hit the beach over the weekend. I took my puppies, they were so excited to see so many people… today it’s back to work….

I’m such a music software junky lol .. I like trying out new gadgets. There’s nothing like finding a bunch of freebies. Since we are celebrating 2yrs I want to share a link to some of the free VST instruments I’ve found over the last few months.

This site will have you loading up your hard drive. They’ve added sections of vsti’s with rating systems. You’ll be able to see which instruments people like most. I’ve tried a few so far, and everything works fine:

www.vst4free.com

You’ll need a Daw to host the vsts. If you need help getting them loaded just hit me up in the comment section… enjoy!
