This is a post I never thought I’d be writing….By now I am sure most of you know the whole Michael Jackson story. The media is in a frenzy, and many fans morn.
I would like to share some of my early memories. Did I know him personally? No… but he is the reason I got into music as a child…
I know many of MsTrisMusic readers are under 21 yrs of age. Some of you who are younger may wonder why so many people are affected by the death of MJ.
For most, Michael’s music has been a part of their lives for as long as his career lasted. By him being with many from a very young age, it’s almost like he was a distant family member. Millions of people grew up listening to The Jackson 5 and later Michael as a solo artist.
I have so many memories of how his music touched me.The very first record my mother bought me was ” ABC”. I had received a Fisher Price record player for Christmas. I learned that song and played it every single day. I could perform it as well. All my family thought I sounded like Michael back then.
From that point on I loved Michael’s music. I also knew I wanted to sing or entertain. There was something special about his music, and that something special inspired me.
I continued to be a huge fan of The Jackson Five, but my favorite brother was Michael. When MJ went solo, everyone I knew played his albums. My oh my, when Thriller was released it was crazy! The vidoes, the dance moves? No one had seen anything like it before. We had to have the Jerry Curl, the glove, the jacket, and the penny loafers.. lol.
The day my mother gave me the “ABC” record changed my life. Before that day, I always wanted to be a doctor or visual artist. As I grew older my artist selection got more diverse, but it was Michael Jackson’s voice that stirred my soul and sparked my love for music.
I could write so much about the many “first” Michael Jackson achieved as an artist. It is clear to see how many lives were touched by his songs.
We all know he went through extreme challenges. I don’t know what’s true and what’s not, so I can’t speak about the accusations, and struggles. I can only speak on the Art.
I pray that people will remember how much he did as a humanitarian, and how he changed music forever. Let’s keep the good memories up front…Rest In Peace to Michael Jackson! A true legend indeed, who will never be forgotten…
