Introducing Feature Photographer Kelly Connelly

Posted by Ms.Tris On April - 14 - 2009

In the music business, there are so many different jobs and people that make it all come together. When it’s time to put out a cd, videos, and scheduled performances it’s no solo act! You have the producers, the artist, the managers, the promoters, and the lawyers. There are stylist, drivers, dancers, and writers. Then you have the beautiful people that capture it all for the world to see…the directors, camera crews, and photographers!

I met our featured Photographer Kelly Connelly back in 2005. As an editor, she has written reviews of just about every musician I can think of locally. I was super impressed by her literary works. At the time I knew she was a writer, but I didn’t know she took photos as well.

After attending a couple events I noticed Kelly bringing her camera. About 20 people had cameras on one particular evening, including myself. I noticed that Kelly didn’t just stand in the back and take quick flicks. She actually made her way to each artist taking several shots at different angels. I realised fast… “she’s a professional photographer! Cool.”

I started seeing more of Kelly’s work on cd covers, online, and in print over the years. I began to recognise her style, and thinking her work is marvelous. Not only has she captured our local celebrities, Kelly has done amazing work from Lil Wayne to Blondie, as well as several beautiful photos from different cities around the world!

I have learned from Kelly how much it takes to capture this culture we call Hip Hop. I also know that we should give our photographers the same respect we do all involved in our projects. Please be reminded to add proper credit for all photos. Photography is art that should be valued as much as any other.

I’ve gotten permission to feature Kelly’s photography! I’ll be adding photo’s here monthly. They say a picture is worth a thousand words…..
I am happy to present the works of Kelly Connelly, the woman with photos worth millions!

Posted by Ms.Tris On April - 2 - 2009

Good Morning All… Busy day today as usual. Next week I’m working on all eastcoast type hiphop. Yes I am back in the crates this weekend… I’ve seen a few videos showing samples that were used in top hiphop songs. Here are two cool ones with Kanyes sample choices..pretty cool I must say…It’s funny because I know I’ve made beats with about 20 of them lol…I didn’t catch them in some of Kanyes songs though.. enjoy

Slicex Tips and Help Files

Posted by Ms.Tris On April - 1 - 2009

What are you up to today? I’m about to get rolling with my 1st beat of the morning. I did fiddle around with the slicex yesterday, after watching the videos. Now I see the huge difference between the slicer and slicex.

There are many additions in slicex like the ability to add fx to each slice. This is is just one out of about 50 things I noticed right away. Another great option is being able to load two samples at once. My mind got to churning on this one.

Let’s say you have filtered a bassline from some funky soul sample but it’s all muffled. You load that in deck A. You could add a good clean bass sample over top using deck B. Then replay your bassline using your midi keyboard or draw it in on the piano roll.

I am actually super excited about this plugin now. I also remember the key reason I closed the slicex before, about 3 months ago. I couldn’t figure out how to make the samples “play til end” like the Fl Slicer does. This is a technique that I love.

What it does is allow you to trigger a sample start from your slice marker, and play the sample all the way through until the end. This way you can “play” your slices like an instrument without sudden stops, as well as select the sample end point in real time.

I had to google this, because I have the slicex open and ready to roll!~ Guess what?… the answer was in the HELP file…lol Image line didn’t make this as easy as it is on the old slicer. You have to run a script. The directions are listed under ” Quick Start” here:http://flstudio.image-line.com/help/html/plugins/Slicex.htm. Click through for more help on Slicex. I’ll be posting some tutorials on it soon. Always remember, ” The Help File is your friend”….

Wish me luck, I am off to see if I can get this to work….
