What is Entrecard?

Posted by Ms.Tris Beats On August - 28 - 2008

I am having a lot of fun with this widget.

I was browsing sites one day and kept seeing this cute little widget with ” U drop I follow”. It caught my eye, and I went on the hunt.
Entrecard is like an online business card. Members are able to drop business cards through the widget, earn credits, find blogs and websites, and of course promote their own.

Webmasters are then able to buy advertising spots using the credits earned. Talk about exposure for your site, I’ve had 30 people buy ads since I started. That’s even before I got the whole idea of the entrecard experience. Great service for new bloggers and the seasoned writers all have it.. easy interface and dashboard too…Entrecard Info and How To Sign Up
Check them out for your site or bookmark in case you decide to start a site..it’s worth it!~

How To Market Your Production On Your Local Scene (part2)

Posted by Ms.Tris Beats On August - 27 - 2008

Following up yesterdays post, answering questions from Chicago producer SBK:How To Market Your Production On Your Local Scene part1

….To do research on the average price producers in your area sell beats? Here is the fun part and the section that will give ideas on how I did my study, and some of the ways I marketed my production locally….

The number one step in marketing your production is a belief in your music. If you don’t have a strong conviction that you are good enough, work on increasing that confidence. Take a look areas you think need improvement, and work out the kinks. Believe in yourself, your artistic expression, and then prepare to share it with the world. I had a group called ” Stone Circle Society” which I was sole producer, and almost manager. Back then I didn’t think I was ready, although the emcees did. I still had more to learn.

Ms.Tris Beats Voted “Best Beat Maker 2005″ Baltimores City Paper

What’s up to all. Producer SBK stopped through and asked some amazing questions on the
How to Make Money For Your Studio Post.
The answers may be valuable to a lot of producers who want to get their music heard.

Here is an excerpt from SBK’s questions:

I noticed that you mentioned I should get my beat copyrighted first. I definitely know how important this aspect is especially in leasing and selling beats. Should I be trying to get every single beat I produce copyrighted as soon as I produce them or should I wait to copyright then when an artist is interested in leasing or purchasing a beat? I know that there is a fee for every time you copyright something and that would seem like a lot of money for each beat or can you send multiple beats in on one form?

Do you think it’s best to use an entertainment attorney for when it’s time to establish terms/producer agreement on beats with artists whether leasing or purchasing?

How do I go about researching what other producers are selling locally? I reside in Chicago which is a big city and it seems like there would be a ton of producers that I would have to research. Should I just go about it by asking the producers personally? I know that online I can just go to the site like Soundclick to see what producers are charging.

Becoming Friends With My Mpc2500

Posted by Ms.Tris Beats On August - 25 - 2008

Good Morning To all.. Hope you had a nice weekend.
Just a little production update….This week it’s all about the beats. I have one site to design tomorrow, but the main focus is some major hard core Eastcoast Hip Hop.

All over the site I’ve done many tutorials on Fl Studio 8 and Reason. I haven’t quite started the mpc2500 tips because I really don’t use it as often as I should. I am finally in the mood ,and today I am preparing for tapping the pads. I bought a larger memory card, 2 gb, and eventually I will add a hard drive.
I will be doing a lot of sample based beats. The first step I am doing is going through some vinyl finding the hot samples to chop. I can’t tell you how to choose samples, but I will tell you I am going through some Soul and R&B songs produced in the seventies. A week ago I went digging and found some treausures…

All of these albums have been sampled heavily. Sometime I just like to challenge myself and see what I can make anyway. I always believe producers will chop samples differently, and that I will be able to make something different than whats been done. After I find the samples, I’ll chop them and make some Mpc programs. I love this software called ” Blue Box”. You can upload your samples and assign it to Mpc pads, then export it as a Mpc Program. Much easier than twisting on the data wheel and chopping inside the Mpc. A brief description:

BlueBox was developed to facilitate creating and editing programs for the Akai MPC1000. This solution automates some of the tedious tasks involved with creating programs using the MPC itself

Download and Homepage For Blue Box

I am not sure if it works for all Mpcs but it works lovely with the Mpc 1000 and 2500…

So I’m off to do some listening and I’ll be posting some updates on my progress through out the week …

Happy Beat Making To All

Good morning all..and Happy Saturday to you. I’m preparing for some back to back sessions, and a whole lot more, hoping to make a battle later…somehow :-) ….

Brakefast Records is having a big one tonight!~ Emcees, Producers, and B Boys/B Girls battle it out for the prize. If you are in the MD, DC, VA, DE, and PA areas and in need of some hip hop tonight, head down to Sonar for a great battle:

BrakeFast Records.Com Main website and “Speaker Boxing” Info

Producer Gee Wiz called me up about the battle. We met a few months back at a music seminar hosted by Streetlegal. We kicked it a while, and I used my easy share to capture a clip.

I’ve been on myspace a little while , but Gee Wiz reminded me of the power of networking there. He’s already been to a NY recording session after meeting R&B singer from the UK, ” Selina Jones Barry”

Gee Wiz is also producing an album for conscious rapper “Charles David”
